PTP Web Design at IED Firenze
The two-year course was packed with learning experiences and opportunities to try my hand at very different disciplines. Below is a summary of some of the courses I attended and the projects I worked on.
Graphic Design Course
TOPICS: typography, design grids, history of graphic design.

Generative Design Course
TOPICS: algorithmic design and creation of generative visual models with Processing (a Java class library with its own IDE).

Online Marketing Strategies Course
TOPICS: SEO, keyword planning, social marketing, funnel planning, remarketing, Google Tag Manager, personas and customer journey, KPIs, reports…
EXAM: management of social campaigns over a set period (with the related reporting) and creation of a landing page, pillar post and newsletter system for ErgiCharter, a business run by a young couple who organize sailing trips in Tuscany and its islands.
Web Development Course
TOPICS: front-end development in HTML and CSS, CSS transitions, media queries and responsive design.
EXAM: reproduction of existing animated web pages, with an explanation of the markup and CSS used.
Digital Storytelling Course
TOPICS: storytelling as a key element of online communication (advertising and otherwise), building the narrative world, creating characters, defining a story, narrative conflict, points of view, objective correlative, film shots. Analysis of several web documentaries.
EXAM: creation of a storyboard for a web documentary.
Special Week: rebrand project for GEST
The Special Week is an event in which IED Firenze gathers requests from companies looking for new ideas. For my work group, the company was GEST, the operator of the Florence tram service. They were looking for ideas and proposals for a rebrand, as work on the new lines was about to be completed.
WebGL Course
TOPICS: basic theory of 3D graphics and shaders. Creation of navigable 3D scenes coded in WebGL with the ThreeJS library.
EXAM: creation of an interactive WebGL scene demonstrating the knowledge acquired during the course.

Computer Vision Course
TOPICS: computer vision theory, motion sensing, object detection through Haar Cascade machine learning.
EXAM: the thesis project made up the practical part of the exam.
JavaScript Web Development Course
TOPICS: object-oriented programming in JavaScript, use of Node, NPM and the Angular framework to build web services and web applications with dynamic front-ends.

Thesis project: Adidas Video Hacking
IED Firenze usually invites its students to carry out a thesis project in collaboration with companies that turn to the institute in search of ideas to enrich and innovate their communication or the design of their services and spaces.
For our PTP training program in Web Design, the 2018 proposal came from Adidas.
